Wealth Management

Wealth Management
The Financial Conduct Authority does not regulate on Inheritance Tax Planning and Trusts.

The value of pension and investments and the income they produce can fall as well as rise. You may get back less than you invested.

Wealth management is all about taking a 360 degree look at your assets and investments and then creating a strategy to get you to where you want to be. It is much more than simply investing.

You may already have your money invested. It may have taken a considerable amount of time, effort and pure hard work to accumulate the value you have within your investments.

You may have ISAs, Unit Trusts, OEICs (Open Ended Investment Companies), Investment Trusts, Investment Bonds etc .

You may have a pension fund which is still invested or in drawdown mode.

Whatever form your investments take, they will need continual review and action to ensure they are working hard for you.

Most of us will, at some time, have had a pot plant or two on our window sill. As you know they need to be looked after properly if they are to survive and prosper. They need water (not too much or too little) , the correct type and quantity of plant food, along with protection from heavy sun and the winter cold. If they are not cared for and nurtured they quickly die.

In very much the same way our investments need to be looked after. We all know this and yet many of us neglect our investments.

We often buy them and then leave them untouched over many years expecting that they will somehow grow. If we are lucky, that may happen. For many, however, all that is achieved is that they follow the ‘snakes and ladders’ movement of the stock markets.

Alternatively, we look after our investments when we are younger and have greater interest. Then as we get older, or busier, we gradually ‘let them go’, in order to pursue other interests.

At Sterling we offer a wealth management service to support you in making your investments work hard to achieve what you want to achieve, leaving you with the time and peace of mind to pursue your other interests.

We normally start with a review of our customer’s strategy. By doing so, we can be certain that we know what you value and just what it is you want to achieve. It is this part of our wealth management process that can yield the greatest advantage. Yes, it takes experience, knowledge, time and skill, but the determination of your strategy is the vital precursory stage, before management of an investment portfolio begins.

Having established your strategy, we can then examine your existing portfolio and the tax wrappers in which the investments are held, so as to be certain that they are suitable. You may be surprised to learn that we find in many cases the tax wrappers used to hold an existing investment portfolio, are in fact unsuitable.

If you have an Inheritance Tax liability we would work to mitigate or eliminate it. To do this we would examine existing arrangements to ascertain whether the use of a trust or trusts may be advantageous. That in turn would lead us to the most suitable tax wrapper/s.

Depending on your income tax position certain tax wrappers may have advantages over others.

We will guide and assist with any re-arrangement of tax wrappers that is necessary.

Some investment routes allow for our customers to access their investments on- line,  so our discussions will also determine the level / ease of access you wish to have for valuations and records of transaction history etc. Your investments will be organised to meet your wishes in this regard.

You will then have the re-assurance of knowing that your investments are set up correctly and in the most suitable form for your convenience AND that they are also arranged to achieve your strategic aims.

Tax treatment varies according to individual circumstances and is subject to change.

Inheritance Tax Planning is not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Investment management

Once we have established and agreed with you your own personal strategy,  work can begin on managing your investments, to achieve your aims and objectives.

As full time professionals, we have access to the latest economic information. Many well known product providers are also permanently in touch, as are some of the less well known ‘boutique’ investment providers. We also have access to the fund managers who manage money.

All this quality information, when added to our own knowledge and judgement , allows  the Sterling team to construct our own views on the action to be taken over the forthcoming investment period.

We also review asset allocation and the geographical spread and the level of risk taken to ensure that it meets with our client’s requirements. We also regularly ‘test’ for suitable diversification. Indeed a customer’s requirements may change with the passage of time.

Our preference is to meet with our clients regularly to discuss progress made and to make recommendations on any changes necessary in order to prepare the investments for constantly changing economic conditions.

And, because our customers are not all the same, we offer four different regular on-going service options… along with a ‘Pay as You Go’ service… so that you can choose a service level which suits you.

We will be happy to meet with you and discuss your requirements. Talk to us free of charge about your investments and what you would like to achieve. Tell us what help you need. This could be light touch assistance on the one hand… to a complete ongoing investment management service on the other.

Talk to us about what you want to achieve. We will happily explain to you just how we would approach your requirements. Take advantage of our free initial, no obligation, consultation. We think you will like our straightforward approach.
